Washington DC - the capital

After the funny BBQ with friends in Centerville, we decided to take an evening walk in Washington itself. Everybody, who has ever been in Virginia knows that driving there by car, especially on rush hour, is a real madness. It’s much better to commute by metro there and this is exactly what we did: we drove to Reston and left our car on a parking lot close to the station. We took a Silver Line to the Metro Center station which is a perfect starting point. Just a few blocks further we could see the crowd at The White House. Trumps family is a very close neighbour with The National Mall – the most famous park in the capital. The term is taken to refer to the entire area between the Lincoln Memorial on the west and east to the United States Capitol grounds, with the Washington Monument dividing the area slightly west of its midpoint. We walked the Capitol around to see The Supreme Court as well. The National Mall contains and borders a number of museums of the Smithsonian Institution, which can be visited for free, but in the evening they were all closed anyway. Well, Air and Space Museum will have to wait for my next visit. Between the Capitol steps and the Lincoln Memorial, the Mall spans 1.9 miles (3.0 km), so seriously exhausted we only managed to reach our metro station and go back ‘home’.
