It is a family tradition that my relatives go to Hankinson cemetery every year, where my new grandparents have their grave. Memorial Day and the whole weekend is a kind of Polish Nov.1, All Saints, so we drove to visit the grave. Hankinson ND was grandparent’s home town since 1957 and they wished to buried there. Driving through the town we could see their old house, now repainted in grey, and some other places like the Lake Elsie. To me they all mean almost nothing but to my mother-in-law it always brings a lot of memories. Also the cemeteries in US differ much from those in PL; no fences, fake flowers, no candles, small grave stones, ….. On the way home we also visited mom’s brother, living in a lake house close to Alexandria. It was good to experience some new tradition.
